I figured I’d start the year off right and give all of you a bit of an overview on the Dell R610 hardware that I use in my test and development work. Got 6 of these guys in the other day so, I shot a quick video overview of the hardware and specs for you to take a look at.
I don’t mention the HBAs or CNAs that I use (Brocade, Emulex, and Qlogic) because it does vary a bit depending on the loadout that I’m working with. Common denominator to everything, though, is VMware ESX4i.
If there’s anything else you want me to provide an overview on, please let me know!
Ok, ok….I know I should actually write stuff out from time to time, but, seriously, the Flip UltraHD makes this waaaay too easy…
In any case, here’s a quick (11 minutes…sorry…) video with my DataCenter wish list….(some of these items have already been answered, but, I’ll let you discover that in some of my postings in early 2010).
Of course, my wishlist is full of cool things like Cisco UCS and C-series servers, Nexus and Arista Networks switching, Qlogic CNAs and switches, Mellanox and Qlogic QDR infiniband switches and clusters, and EMC V-Max, CLARiiON, and Celerra (of course Atmos is implicit) storage systems. What’s on YOUR list?
As I’ve said before, Merry Christmas and may you know PEACE and JOY in the new year!
This is a tongue in cheek video that I took in one of my labs showing why, for no other reason but fabric reduction, that CEE/DCE/FCoE is a valuable thing for ANY IT infrastructure.
A couple of things you’ll notice here are:
a.) it’s loud. Sorry about that…this lab is in a thermal chamber and it gets crazy loud.
b.) I’m running Qlogic 2562 HBAs (fibre channel) and Qlogic 5802V switching (more switches are coming)
c.) My GigE switches are, in a word, terrible (with the distinct difference being the Foundry/Brocade switching which is good).
d.) I copt a TERRIBLE NorthEastern accent…I don’t even know where it came from…
Anyhow, this Flip UltraHD recorder is pretty awesome…
If you follow me on Twitter at all, you’ll know that I’m a big fan of Qlogic. I appreciate the functional simplicity of what Qlogic designs encompass as well as the “get business done” attitude that they bring to their switches, HBAs, NICs, and CNAs. Imagine my happiness, then, when I got ahold of one […]
Cool new toy just landed in my lab for a production VMware vSphere implementation. This one is going to one of our internal groups that has a moderate load Microsoft SQL implementation. I’ve included a slideshow below so that you can see some of the absolutely fantastic features this Dell R610 (and even it’s bigger […]
