Managing the Information Flood…

As my brother posted yesterday, part of optimizing workflow is understanding how you relate to the information that you receive.  Depending on your method of information ingestion (the use of eating analogies is on purpose), you’re going to optimize your environment in a specific way. Stu Miniman also kicked off a strong examination on optimizing your computer layout for information processing.  

A few of the things that are especially critical to understand related to your process of learning and cognition.  Rather than lapse into an entire article devoted solely to learning systems, I’ll use my personal story to help you understand learning and cognition.  Let’s kick this off, then…

Small children, much to my chagrin, do NOT adjust to time changes as well as I thought.  530am this morning (west coast) and I’m already trying to scrounge breakfast for my rabid progeny.  Scary, eh?

It’s not about the money…

Sometimes, I think we spend too much time worried about how much X solution is going to cost without looking at the big picture. I’ll be quite honest with you: a $25,000.00 array IS expensive to SMB, regardless if a Commercial or Enterprise account rep thinks otherwise. “What’s the value that the $25,000 array is going to bring you? Is it truly worth that cost? etc. etc.” have to be the questions swirling through the minds of any competent IT Director/Admin, etc. After all, the last thing you need in your Data Center is deadweight.

The Ongoing Evolution of Flickerdown…

So, as you’ve probably noticed, you no longer are landing at the Flickerdown Store. While this may be somewhat disheartening to some, I’d like to point out that about 99% of my “business” is conducted via email and/or phone. So, give me a holler via email and I’ll hook you up.
