Dell and VMware: A match made in heaven

by dave on June 3, 2009

#helpnick

Cool new toy just landed in my lab for a production VMware vSphere implementation.  This one is going to one of our internal groups that has a moderate load Microsoft SQL implementation. I’ve included a slideshow below so that you can see some of the absolutely fantastic features this Dell R610 (and even it’s bigger brother the R710) bring to the table for virtualization. There are also a couple of shots showing of some of the upcoming Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) Converged Network Adapters (CNAs) that will be coming down the road at some point from QLogic.  I know, I know…this shows my relatively “geeky” side but honestly, when you get to do THIS for a living, how can you not get excited?!?!?!  Enjoy.  Shoot me any questions around the R610 and I’ll try to answer them.  I’ll try to get a build document put together as well (no promises).

Note: you can get to the static picture set here.

Here are some additional links to Symmetrix V-Max coverage.  I’m trying to go for a healthy blend of EMC insiders, customers, external bloggers.  If you see something that should be here, let me know.

Some of this list is mirrored over at The Storage Anarchist but I figured you’d want to stay on top of things. He’ll be posting updates to his list as well. I’m trying to collect some other bits and pieces. These are the particular articles that I liked.

      FriendFeed listing for EMC Corporation:

Clariion AX4-5: Practical Implementation Considerations – Part 1

      December 23, 2008

I’m typically in the position of designing storage solutions for external customers based upon established protocols and best practices here at EMC.  We design based on our work with Microsoft, Oracle, SAP, etc. and the solutions development that happens with these partners.  It’s definitely an exciting challenge to take a customer’s needs and wrap them […]

Blog Topics coming down the line…

      November 20, 2008

I’ve decided that along with my new found discipline of hitting the treadmill early in the morning (530am), I should attempt to set up a timeline or topic list of posts that I need to finish working on.  To that end, here’s what’s cooking right now @ Flickerdown:

Cloud Storage Series:  Articles talking about data storage […]
