As much as I like to talk about Qlogic, there are times when you’ve just got to let someone else tell their story. In this case, Qlogic’s Marty Holmes gives a very thorough video analysis of the SanBox 5802V Fibre Switch.
This is my current switch of choice if you need small departmental Fibre Channel switches that support 8gb, 4gb, and 2gb FC. The technical specifications can be found here.
I was asked the other day about the potential for finally going tapeless in Commercial and Enterprise spaces. Truth be told, this is becoming a more common occurence as those mechanical beasts hit the tail-end of their maintenance windows. With that in mind, what are some (not all) of the business drivers that move enterprises from tape to disk (or other mediums)?
One of the more recent advancements within computing has been the application of heuristics and neural networking. Heuristics is defined as being “…an educational method in which learning takes place through discoveries that result from investigations…“ While heuristics has historically been used in such products like anti-virus software, it provides an incredible wealth of capability and technology for the COSS solution. Similarly, neural networks provide capacitive understanding of processing layers and optimizations that learn patterns based on underlying statistical data. How do these two technologies apply to COSS?
For those of you who think you can stand listening to me prattle on for 36 or so minutes (completely unpolished, I might add), here’s an audio clip for you that I recorded this morning. You’ll see the content of this recording show up sometime soon as another article in the COSS (Cloud Optimized Storage [...]
In Parts 1 & 2 of the Cloud Optimized Storage Solutions series, we took a look at the content being storage on COSS as well as how it is stored. In Part 3 (split into two parts), we’ll examine the concepts of Tiering and also Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and their impact on COSS. To [...]
