One of the things I do in my spare time is develop rendering systems for a client in another country.  The cool thing about this is that I’m able to use cutting-edge AMD processors and platforms from Tyan and nVidia in order to accomplish these goals.

I just found out that one of my rendering systems was used to process the following Coca-Cola commercial for the 2008 Summer Olympics!!!  There is a little special trick to this system, however, that warrants a closer look.

Here’s a quick run-down on the specs:

ProcessorsAMD Opteron 23xx “Barcelona” quad core processors

Platform: Tyan GT28 dual node 1U server with nVidia MCP55 chipset

Memory: Kingston DDR2-667 2GB dimms

Cooling:  Koolance 1U waterblocks

Here’s a gallery of pictures showing the system:

And here’s the youTube video:

Future updates to this system will include:

AMD Opteron Quad core or Six core Opteron processors (Barcelona or Shanghai)

DDR2-800 ECC/Registered memory

Infiniband connectivity for low latency, high bandwidth connectivity to…(hopefully) EMC storage.
